Crossbreds…Moggies…Domestics

They are known by many names however, we call them the Group 4 Companion Cats.

If you have a friendly cat or kitten they may be shown at local cat shows. It's a fun hobby with lots of prizes and a good chance to meet new people. It doesn't necessarily have to be a pedigree cat as household cats can be shown in the Companion cat section.

Kittens can be shown once they reach 10 weeks of age and companions (domestics) must be desexed before they reach 6 months. Spaying/Neutering your cat has several advantages.

Your cat must be clean, free from parasites, and have its front and back claws clipped before the show.

SHOW FORMAT

Companion cats are judged on beauty, personality, overall condition, balance and proportions.

Is your cat super friendly toward people, got a cute face and a fabulous purrrsonality ?
Are his vaccinations up to date?
Is he wormed and have adequate flea control?
Is he in healthy, happy condition?

Did you know that non-pedigree cats can compete in cat shows, win cool prizes AND gain points toward a championship title! Did you know that showing your cat is a fun, friendly way to meet new people?

The Council of Federated Cat Clubs Inc and their affiliates would like to invite you and your pet to attend our shows. Not only do we judge your cat in each ring, we also have fun side-classes such as best purrsonality or longest whiskers AND the best cats of the day compete for the "Top Cat" Supreme Companion In Show Award!

To create interest, resumes will be taken with entry forms to add a little spice to these"unknowns" of the cat world. Have fun with them; tell the judges how you came about owning your beloved moggie or some fun story about your cat.

Side classes will be included at every show, in every ring. There will be a minimum of six and a maximum of ten sideclasses (see below).

What do I do now?

Information on what shows are being held and where they will be held are available for download on the show page of the CFCCQ web site at www.cfccq.org once you decide which show you would like to enter you need to fill out an entry form, which can also be downloaded from the shows page. Post it with your entry fees to the show secretary.

Before the show

Give your cat a bath and blowdry if it is a longhaired cat, clean its ears and eyes and ost importantly clip its nails. On the day of the show, take a bag packed with a pillow for it to sit on and show curtains if you have them. There is usualy a stall at the show which sells cage curtains with matching cushion if you do not have any or you can make your own. The cages are an 18 inch cube. If the weather is cool, feel free to bring a hottie and if it is hot, you should bring a cold brick.

At the Show

Bring your cat in a secure cat basket. You will be asked your name at the door and to show your vaccination certificate if it is a kitten and you have not sent a copy with your entry. You will be given your cage number where you will put your cat. There is usually room under the tables to store any items that you don't need such as its carry cage. Feel free to look at the other exhibits however, always ask before touching anyone else's cat and wash your hand before and after. Ask as many questions as you can, chat with other exhibitors and… Most importantly …HAVE FUN!

  1. As per the CFCCQ rules, a companion cat/kitten is a cat/kitten which has no pedigree papers and, therefore, is ineligible to compete in the pedigree rings.
  2. The side classes are to be a minimum of six and a maximum of ten of the following categories-
    • Best eye colour - self explanatory
    • Best dressed - the cat with the most beautiful coat, condition and colour.
    • Best tail - awarded to the cat who expresses himself the best with his tail and/or the most beautiful tail.
    • Pedigree Impostor - a wolf in sheeps clothing, if you will. A cat that could pass as being a pedigree but has a murky past.
    • Longest whiskers - self explanatory
    • Loudest Purr - can we hear you up the back?
    • Purrrsonality plus - does the cat eat the judges toy or perhaps rub themselves lovingly against him?
    • Happy paws - cutest feet, happiest walk, most playful, it's the judges choice?
    • Placid cat - Hello … would you like to wake up now? Legs are for standing on, you know?
    • Judges Choice - maybe not your Best In Show but there is something that makes you smile, perhaps the best presented?
