Centre for Companion Animal Health
The Centre for Companion Animal Health (CCAH) is a world-class research centre,
leading the development of scientific and social advances in companion animal
health and welfare. Under the leadership of Professor Jacquie Rand, a team of
postgraduate students conducts studies to:
-
Improve the health of companion animals through a better understanding of the
cause of disease. Best possible treatments and preventions are developed and
disseminated world-wide for the benefit of all pets.
-
Enrich the lives of aged, disadvantaged and disabled people by understanding
and promoting the many benefits within a human-animal bond.
-
Prevent unwanted and problem pets through improved socialisation, re-training,
re-homing, neutering and broad community education.
Founded in 2002, our Centre operates as a non-profit organisation. Like all
universities around the world, we look to industry, individuals and our Alumni
for investment by way of tax-deductible donations; bequests and sponsorship to
help our team of veterinarians, nutritionists, behaviourists and psychologists
find answers to ensure a happy and healthy life for our pets and society in
general.

Animal Welfare League of Qld
The Animal Welfare League of Queensland Inc. (AWL) is a non-profit,
non-government funded, charitable organisation. We rely on community support
through donations, fundraising efforts and volunteers. The Gold Coast and
surrounding communities should be immensely proud, as it is their support which
has enabled the AWL to provide for the thousands of animals in need over the
years.
We are continuing this year to not only care for all the unwanted, stray and
abandoned animals that come through our doors, but also increase community
awareness about how to end the tragedy of pet overpopulation. Our goal is to
bring an end to the euthanasia of healthy animals in Australia through
education and awareness. Donations, legacies and bequests are greatly needed to
assist our goal and are deeply appreciated. It is through the continued support
of the community that we will achieve a brighter future for every companion
animal in need.
DVD & Booklet: Caring Responsibly for your Cat and Dog
Packed with everything pet owners need do to ensure that every cat and dog will
have a lifelong caring and responsible home, these DVDs and accompanying
booklets have been put together by a large team of people involved in every
facet of the pet industry, including registered breeders, cat and dog clubs,
pet shop owners, RSPCA, Australian Veterinary Association, Wildcare, Wildlife
Preservation Society and Gold Coast City Council, as well as the Animal Welfare
League. With the hope of ending the euthanasia of healthy pets caused by the
large numbers of unwanted animals and the lack of homes for them, these DVDs
promote caring responsibly for pets, starting with desexing to prevent unwanted
litters, and then introducing new furry additions to the household in the best
possible way, as well as general care. They are now being distributed to new
pet owners through Council Offices, the AWL refuge, pet shops, registered
breeders and vets following the launch at the 3rd Annual Gold Coast Pet Expo by
Dr Harry Cooper. For people who already have a pet or who are considering a new
furry addition in the future and/or would like to see the DVD, they are
available for sale at the AWL for just $5, with an additional $2 cost if you
require both cat and dog booklets. Please email Joy on joy@awlqld.com.au if you
would like to place a large order, or visit the AWL shop if you wish to buy a
personal copy.
