Terry Merritt began breeding and showing Persians under the “Sargon” prefix in
about 1977. With his wife, Chris, he was a founding member of Orchid City Cat
Club in Townsville and has been a member of the Exotic Cat Club of Queensland
Inc for many years. As well as the Persians, they also included the breeding of
British Shorthairs under the “Carinya prefix” with many Best-in-Show winners.
They then embarked on an experimental breeding program to develop Exotic
Shorthairs with great success in this breed as well.
Since moving to Toowoomba some 12 years ago, Terry and Chris have been breeding
Burmese with their daughter, Carolynn, under the “Jovelles” prefix. They are
now achieving very good results with their breeding on the show bench with this
breed.
Terry became an approved Group One Judge in 1989 and has recently completed his
training in Group Two. He is a Group One Tutor Judge and has judged in
Australia, as well as in New Zealand.
Over the years, Terry has been involved in the running of many successful shows
and is currently continuing to develop a computerised program for catalogues,
judges' slips, etc.
Terry was a member of CFCCQ's Management Committee from 2005 to March 2008.
